Daughters Are Precious

First step to solve a complex social problem is to keep alive the problem in mainstream or mass media. First episode of Amir's Satyamev Jayate is on Female Foeticide,  has become very famous and its message is clear and widespread - Daughters are precious!.

India is known as country where women are respected and worshiped as goddess. This country is suppose to be a safest and best place for girls and women. Unfortunately girls are missing and violence against women is ever increasing.

The issue is that child sex ratio (number of girls per 1000 boys in 0 - 6 years) has dipped to 918 in 2011 from 927 in 2001 and 945 in 1991. It's the lowest since Independence and even worst is child sex ratio is dipping badly after economic reforms in 1991!.

Year       Child population
1961       976
1971       964
1981       962
1991       945
2001      927
2011      918

What next? 'Operation Girl Child'??
